Popularity

By Ryan, April 11, 2007

I’ve never felt so popular in my life. At church tonight, two girls told me they loved me as they were leaving. I kid you not, TWO! Of course, I doubt either of them meant it romantically. Also, my blog is getting hits from people I never heard of. A couple of months ago, I got a comment from someone who lives in Los Angeles. I found out that a man that was interviewing my dad for a job was impressed because he saw my blog and was impressed that Dad was raising someone with the spiritual thinking that I was writing with. And on top of all that, my reputation is so wide-spread, that a family friend from Tulsa recently called asking me how to insert keywords using HTML. I sure feel popular!

The Sine WaveBut popularity is like the sine wave. It goes up and down, as you can clearly see. Mark Lowry said that his favorite verse was simply “It came to pass.” Although this was largely intended for humor, he also shared a bunch of deep spiritual meaning behind it. Good things will pass, and bad things will take their place. Then those bad things will pass. And add a little good. Lather, rinse, repeat, right?

No matter what happens in life, what matters is the attitude towards it. “Life can only be as good as your attitude about it,” as my youth minister from middle school put it. Popularity comes, popularity goes. What I say: enjoy the good parts while they last, make the best of the bad parts. That, I feel, is the key to being content.

Glad you like it. I don’t ususally feel that popular either. I think I caught a lucky break for a month or two. It’s over. But life is still good.

I wish it was like chocolates! If life was like chocolates, I would enjoy everything that came my way!
No, I think life is more like a sewer... what you get out of it depends on what you put into it.

I’ll field that question for him. When he turned 17, he was not a member of this blog. When he turned 18, he was a nominal member of this blog. When he turned 19, he didn’t know it. He knows what I mean!!
